James Carville reacts to ESPN’s apology to the SEC, calls network ‘gutless’

With both Alabama and LSU coming off a bye weekend, the story for two weeks has been the No. 1 team in the nation coming to Baton Rouge’s Death Valley to play what appears to be the Crimson Tide’s toughest divisional opponent this season.
Despite all the hoopla surrounding the epic showdown, James Carville seems to be doing everything he can to make himself the story in Baton Rouge.
Carville, a self-proclaimed LSU-homer, recently appeared on the Paul Finebaum Show on SEC Network to criticize the way the league handled the targeting call and first-half suspension of LSU’s All-SEC linebacker Devin White. That appearance followed an opinion piece Carville wrote on the subject for a Louisiana paper.
With ESPN’s College GameDay broadcasting from Baton Rouge for the Alabama-LSU game, the show had Carville on during one segment in which he continued to call out the SEC.

That segment must not have gone over very well in Birmingham, as ESPN felt the need to apologize for the comments during halftime of the Auburn-Texas A&M game — which was broadcast by ESPN following College GameDay.
Here are those comments, if you missed them, which were ready by ESPN college football host Chris Cotter:
“We have an apology to make on behalf of ESPN. While appearing as a guest on College GameDay earlier today, James Carville offered his thoughts on SEC Commissioner Greg Sankey. As we like to demonstrate here at ESPN, diversity of opinions are encouraged, however, these actions were over the top and we would like to apologize to Commissioner Sankey for them.”
Apparently, Carville heard about the apology and issued a statement of his own:
