The 2 biggest matchups of week 1 of the 2025 season were No. 1 Texas taking on No. 3 Ohio State, and No. 4 Clemson taking on No. 9 LSU.
Both the Buckeyes and Bayou Bengals came out on top in their respective matchups, and both of these squads will likely be vying for the top overall spot in this week’s AP Poll Top-25 rankings.
While the Buckeyes may have the best argument for securing the top spot after they beat the then No. 1 team, ESPN’s Heather Dinich went on ‘Get Up’ to explain why she believes the Tigers should be the ones sitting on top heading into Week 2.
“LSU should be the No. 1 team in the country,” Dinich said. “They went on the road. Ohio State won at home, albeit against a good team, but they (LSU) beat a good team soundly. They made them one-dimensional, and they exposed them. They limited them to 31 rushing yards.”
Dinich raises some excellent points for why the Tigers deserve to gain the top spot, but it’s still unlikely that the voters give them the nod over OSU, given that they have the higher-ranked win.
Crazier things have happened, however, so it will be interesting to see how things end up shaking out in the Week 2 AP Poll.
