LSU has one of the nation’s top high school quarterbacks in the country already committed in the class of 2025.

Bryce Underwood, a 5-star quarterback from Michigan, committed to the Tigers back in January. He’s the No. 1 overall player in the country for his recruiting cycle, per 247Sports Composite rankings.

On Monday, ESPN’s Tom Luginbill published a story breaking down 10 of the best high school QB prospects in the country. Underwood was one of the passers who was highlights. Luginbill compared Underwood to former LSU quarterback Jayden Daniels, who won the 2023 Heisman Trophy:

“Underwood is capable of achieving everything that Jayden Daniels did under center for the Tigers. Underwood will not likely make the same number of plays with his legs, but he will be able to pinpoint the football to intermediate and deep levels of the field. New offensive playcaller Joe Sloan is going to have an awful lot of clay to mold here.”

Underwood headlines a potentially-elite recruiting class for LSU in 2025. The Tigers’ group of 11 commits currently ranks No. 11 nationally, per 247Sports Composite rankings.

He has the size and skillset to make an immediate impact in the early days of his collegiate career. Underwood, who attends Belleville High School in Belleville, Michigan, is listed at 6-foot-3, 205 pounds.

However, Underwood does have some flaws in his game that need some work. Here’s what Luginbill wrote about Underwood’s “areas of improvement” entering his senior year:

“He can be a little tense in the upper body and he could be more consistent with his feet and platform within the pocket. He has so much arm talent and arm strength that he can get away with making plays that most prospects would not be able to accurately perform.”

Underwood will be able to officially sign with LSU during the Early Signing Period in December.

In the meantime, LSU is hoping to have a big season in 2024. The Tigers revamped their defensive coaching staff this offseason and could contend for a spot in the newly-expanded 12-team College Football Playoff.

LSU is currently +128 to reach the College Football Playoff this season, according to the latest odds from FanDuel. If you’re interested in betting on that line, here’s all you need to know about the best Louisiana sportsbook apps on the market in 2024.
