ESPN college football analyst believes title game features future back-to-back No. 1 overall NFL Draft selections
If Brock Huard is correct and Tua Tagovailoa and Trevor Lawrence live up to the hype when the lights are brightest, Monday night’s national championship game could feature an awesome display of arm talent unlike any we’ve ever seen at the collegiate level.
That’s a bold statement to make but one Huard would likely agree with based on recent comments he made while featured on Birmingham-based WJOX 94.5 FM radio program “The Roundtable” Thursday.
Here is what Huard had to say when asked which player would be the better quarterback in two years.
“I firmly believe, right now, if I had money to bet on this, I think they are going to be the No. 1 pick in the entire NFL draft in the years they come out,” Huard commented on the show. “That will be for Tua following next year and Trevor is obviously a year behind. I think you could see back to back No. 1 picks in the NFL draft. That’s what I think of both of these guys.”
The ESPN college football host made a good point when it comes to Lawrence’s size, he is exactly what NFL franchises covet from a QB and considering he’s still very young, he’ll have time to grow and develop into a more polished player as his career progresses.
“Obviously, from an NFL standpoint, Trevor’s size is prototypical, it’s phenomenal. He’s only going to get bigger and stronger and it’s scary to think what he may look like in two years with five, 10, 15 pounds of strength,” Huard continued. “He is a true freshman, not Johnny Manziel or Jameis Winston as redshirt freshmen, this is a true freshman out there doing it.”
While Huard was eager to praise both players, he gives the edge to Lawerence in terms of future potential at this point in time.
“I love them both. If you put me as an NFL guy and said about the next level, maybe by an eyelash, it would be Trevor Lawrence but both are going to be absolute studs and coveted at the next level,” he concluded.
That’s all fine and well for now but when it comes to which player will be better come Monday night, based on everything we’ve seen this season, as long as Tua doesn’t come up injured, Alabama should have the edge at the game’s most important position in the national championship game.
