There’s been little change within the top five teams in college football in recent weeks as most people who make rankings begin with Alabama, Notre Dame, Clemson and Ohio State.
ESPN college football analysts Joey Galloway and Jesse Palmer gave their latest versions of their top five rankings on Saturday’s “College Football Final.”
Palmer continued to like Texas A&M at No. 5, but he noted that the Aggies need to make up some postponed games to give the committee a fresh look.
Palmer dropped Ohio State one spot to No. 4 because he doesn’t think the Buckeyes are as talented a team as they were a year ago. They ultimately pulled away from Indiana on Saturday, but it was a close game for a while.
“If they win out, they’re going to get in the College Football Playoff, I’m worried about the secondary,” Palmer said. “They’re giving up way too many big plays in the passing game, gave up 491 yards against Indiana.”
Both analysts have Alabama at No. 1, and Palmer has QB Mac Jones as the frontrunner for the Heisman Trophy.
“They’ve got to play Auburn next, who they’ve lost two of the last three to, so that’s going to be interesting to watch,” Palmer said.
Galloway said he typically doesn’t drop a team like Ohio State if it had a tougher-than-expected game. But he also noted it will be interesting on Tuesday to see where the Buckeyes are ranked when the first official CFP rankings are released.
