Newsflash: Alabama’s defense is scary good.
That’s not uncommon. Per CFBStats.com, the Crimson Tide have finished 7th or better in national scoring defense in each of the last eight years. There’s a good chance that will extend to nine following the conclusion of the 2016 campaign, as they enter Week 10’s game with LSU ranked No. 4 in that category (14.9).
But according to ESPN’s FPI ratings, this isn’t your typical, dominant Alabama defense. This unit goes well beyond that measure.
This is the best defense college football has seen in over a decade (and as far as the FPI goes back).

With four or five potential first-round picks on defense alone for next year’s NFL draft, the Tide are absolutely loaded with talent. Rinse, repeat.
