ESPN’s Football Power Index (FPI) has updated its rankings after a wild Week 12.
ESPN Analytics defines the FPI as a measure of team strength that is meant to be the best predictor of a team’s performance going forward for the rest of the season. When it comes to rankings, the FPI is consistently unpredictable. The Week 13 rankings follow through on that front.
We have another change in the No. 1 team this weekend. The Ohio State Buckeyes are the top team once again after trouncing the Minnesota Golden Gophers 37-3. The Michigan Wolverines were bumped to No. 2 after having a scare against the Maryland Terrapins.
Georgia, Alabama, and Oregon round out the top 5 of the rankings. The Penn State Nittany Lions were bounced out of the top 5 even after handling Rutgers.
Of the top 5 teams, the Bulldogs had the biggest boost, moving up 3 spots after dismantling the Tennessee Volunteers.
