The 2021 college football season produced high drama with each passing week.

There were shocking upsets, surprising coaching changes, and upstarts that played their way onto the national stage.

On Monday, ESPN released its list of the 21 most memorable moments of the college football season.

The list had a strong SEC flavor, as 5 of the moments were related to conference programs.

Headlining the list were 2 games involving Alabama, the No. 1 seed in the College football Playoff.

The first was Texas A&M’s stunning upset of the Crimson Tide, and more specifically Seth Small’s game-winning 28-yard field goal and his family’s reaction to the kick.

The second was the comeback orchestrated by Heisman Trophy winning quarterback Bryce Young to help Alabama top Auburn in 4 overtimes, 24-22.

Unfortunately, one SEC moment made the list for how ugly it was, that being Lane Kiffin’s return to Tennessee, which was marred by 4th-quarter delays after fans began pelting the field with the debris.

The final 2 SEC-related moments of 2021 were connected to coaching changes at LSU and Florida.

Brian Kelly’s move to Baton Rouge was singled out for the sheer surprise of the decision, while new Florida coach Billy Napier’s final moments in winning a Sun Belt title with Louisiana were also recognized.

One can only hope that the 2022 season brings as much excitement!
