ESPN publishes an SEC spring preview on Thursday, identifying key players and storylines for each of the league’s 16 teams.
That, of course, includes the Alabama Crimson Tide. While there are numerous players worth keeping an eye on, ESPN’s Mark Schlabach singled out someone who could be asked to play a key role on the offensive line this fall: Wilkin Formby.
Formby, who played high school ball in Tuscaloosa before signing with Alabama, is expected to contend for the right tackle job this offseason. He would be replacing Elijah Pritchett, who transferred to Nebraska after a disappointing 2024 campaign. Here’s Schlabach’s analysis on the Alabama OL entering spring camp:
Alabama’s offensive line cut its sacks allowed from 49 in 2023 to 24 in 2024. The Tide have some nice pieces coming back in left tackle Kadyn Proctor, center Parker Brailsford and right guard Jaeden Roberts. Wilkin Formby, a homegrown product of Northridge High in Tuscaloosa, Alabama, is going to be asked to take over at right tackle. Elijah Pritchett, transferred to Nebraska after struggling mightily at the spot last season.
Formby signed with Alabama as a top-100 prospect in the class of 2023. He played in 9 games last season and even made 2 starts, but he’s still relatively light on experience going into a pivotal 2025 season for the Tide. But if he can shore up that right side, Alabama figures to have one of the best offensive lines in the SEC this fall.
Per Pro Football Focus, Formby played 292 snaps last season. He was PFF’s 2nd-highest-graded Alabama tackle in 2024 behind only Kadyn Proctor.
