Are we getting to close to the end of Kirk Herbstreit and Chris Fowler calling college football games?

While it may be a bit premature to jump to that conclusion, the duo received rave reviews after calling an NFL “Monday Night Football” game this season. In fact, the duo of Herbstreit and Fowler calling an NFL game seemed to work as well as, if not better than, ESPN’s selected three-man booth of Louis Riddick, Brian Griese and Steve Levy.

Following their debut calling an NFL game, Herbstreit and Fowler were asked to work another “Monday Night Football” game, this time on another channel interviewing guests and talking football during an ESPN megacast.

While Herbstreit has been hesitant to considering leaving college football, it certainly sounds like he may be more open to that idea after working some NFL games.

“I had an absolute ball calling that game [Steelers-Giants] and it made me reflect a little bit differently toward my future and what I might want to do down the road,” Herbstreit recently shared in an interview with the Big Lead. “Like I said, I hope to always do college football. But if NFL would be in my future, I’m a lot more open to that thought than I was maybe prior to that experience.”

Following that comment, Andrew Marchand of the New York Post is reporting that ESPN will have Herbstreit and Fowler work another “Monday Night Football” game this week as the NFL has another doubleheader on Monday night.

The duo will work the New England-Denver game that kicks off at 5 p.m. ET on ESPN.
