Conference realignment continues to be a big story in college athletics, as analysts and fans wait and see what moves might be coming next.

In the wake of the uncertainty, conferences are doing all they can to protect themselves, which means securing long-term media rights deals.

A recent report indicated that the Big 12, which has been especially affected by realignment, had started to renegotiate its media rights with ESPN and Fox Sports.

On Wednesday, however, ESPN issued a statement that said otherwise, even though the original report came from an ESPN staff member, Pete Thamel.

What’s next for the Big 12 now?

Time will tell, but in the short term, the waiting game continues.
