With the 2016 season’s midway point officially here, re-evaluating preseason predictions and early performances has been a hot topic.
That includes SEC quarterback play. Prior to Week 1, Ole Miss gunslinger Chad Kelly was highly regarded as the conference’s best at the position. And while he still deserves credit as one of the top passers in the country, the list has become a bit more crowded through seven weeks of action.
ESPN’s SEC blog writers got together for a roundtable Wednesday morning, and the question was asked: Who has been the best SEC quarterback in the season’s first half?
It’s a mixed bag of results, though it’s a two-way tie between Alabama true freshman Jalen Hurts and Arkansas redshirt junior Austin Allen:
Edward Aschoff: Jalen Hurts, Alabama
David Ching: Chad Kelly, Ole Miss
Sam Khan Jr.: Austin Allen, Arkansas
Greg Ostendorf: Austin Allen, Arkansas
Alex Scarborough: Jalen Hurts, Alabama
