Before Lee Corso makes his final headgear selection this fall, ESPN is taking time to honor one of college football’s most beloved voices.

The network announced a one-hour special titled “Not So Fast, My Friend: A Lee Corso Special,” airing Thursday, August 22 at 9 P.M. ET on ESPN and streaming afterward on ESPN+.

“My family and I will be forever indebted for the opportunity to be part of ESPN and College GameDay for nearly 40 years,” Corso said in a press release earlier this offseason. “I have a treasure of many friends, fond memories and some unusual experiences to take with me into retirement.”

Corso, a staple of College GameDay since its early years, has been entertaining fans with his signature catchphrases and headgear picks over three decades. He joined the show in 1987, and quickly became one of the most recognizable faces in college football.

Now 90 years old, Corso has scaled back his weekly appearances in recent seasons, but continues to be a cherished presence each fall Saturday. The upcoming special will celebrate his astounding legacy with rare footage, interviews from colleagues and many of his memorable on-air moments.

As the 2025 season approaches, fans can expect at least one more emotional headgear pick — but not before the college football landscape takes a moment to salute the man who made “Not so fast, my friend!” a winning Saturday tradition.
