ESPN’s Booger McFarland believes the biggest question mark for his alma mater, the LSU Tigers, is their mindset heading into the 2025-26 college football season.

“LSU has a really good roster. The biggest question mark isn’t talent, it’s mindset,” McFarland wrote in a message shared on social media. “You have to be able to run the football and stop the run/rush the passer.

“Football is a physical, hit-someone-in-the-mouth game. Can/will they do that?”

McFarland was a defensive tackle for the LSU Tigers from 1995 to 1998. He was a four-year starter, a co-captain his senior year, and earned First-Team All-American honors. When McFarland left the Tigers, he was ranked sixth in LSU history for sacks with 17.

Many will look to head coach Brian Kelly to help instill this mindset into this year’s Tiger team. After a disappointing 2024 season, Kelly helped bring in the No. 1-rated transfer class, according to 247 Sports, making the Tigers the big winners of the 2025 offseason.

Kelly also completely revamped his secondary and brought back highly regarded secondary coach Corey Raymond.

LSU will have to be ready with this mindset come Aug. 30 when they travel to Memorial Stadium for a clash with No. 4 Clemson in the season opener.
