ESPN’s Football Power Index provides its prediction for the upcoming ranked matchup between Missouri and Texas A&M this Saturday, as it gives the Tigers a narrow 51.7% chance to come out with the win at Kyle Field.
It’s been an interesting start to a highly anticipated season for Mizzou. With a plethora of stars on both sides of the ball returning and a favorable schedule, many expected the Tigers to contend for a College Football Playoff spot.
While the 4-0 record has done nothing to suggest that that isn’t a possibility, the way in which Missouri has gotten to this point has. The Tigers cruised to easy wins over the likes of Murray State and Buffalo to start the season, but they were then forced to come back from a double-digit deficit against Boston College before Drinkwitz & Co. had to outlast Vanderbilt in double overtime. Fresh off a bye week, Mizzou has a chance to right the ship with a signature road win.
Mike Elko’s team is among the most battle-tested in the nation, sporting a lone loss to Notre Dame while also boasting wins over Florida (road) and Arkansas (neutral) to get out to a strong start. That respectable beginning to the season is made even more impressive by the fact that, for the second year in a row, starting QB Connor Weigman went down with an injury and a backup stepped up in his place. This time, freshman Marcel Reed has taken the reins and played admirably in limited time.
The Tigers and Aggies kick things off at noon ET on ABC.
