ESPN’s FPI predicts the winner of Tennessee vs. Syracuse game in Week 1
ESPN’s Football Power Index (FPI) has made its predictions clear: the Tennessee Volunteers, led by head coach Josh Heupel, are going to dominate Syracuse on Saturday in Atlanta.
The FPI projections paint a striking picture, giving the Vols an impressive 88.6% chance of victory over the Orange who sit at just 11.4 %.
Tennessee is 3-0 all-time against Syracuse. Their last meeting was back in 2001 at Neyland stadium, where the Vols showcased their prowess with the big 33-9 win.
But is it time for history to rewrite a new twist? While we all know when it comes to college football anything is possible, Vegas seems to think otherwise with Tennessee as a solid 14-point favorite heading into the neutral site showdown.
The Volunteers come off a strong 10-3 season that finished with a first-round exit from the College Football Playoff. However, questions loom over Tennessee’s passing game as they transition to the Joey Aguilar era.
On the other side of the field, Syracuse finished strong with a 10 -3 record and a Holiday Bowl victory last season. But much like Tennessee, Syracuse is banking on transfers to bolster their roster in former Notre Dame quarterback Steve Angeli.
Kick off is set for Noon ET from the Benz in Atlanta.
