ESPN’s FPI predicts the outcome of the heavyweight SEC West match between Mississippi State and Alabama

Alabama doesn’t have to have “bounce back” games very often.
The Crimson Tide fell to Tennessee last week in an instant classic. They look to get back into winning form this weekend against Mississippi State.
But it’s not like this is a gimme game for the Tide. The Bulldogs are caught up in a bounce back game of their own having lost to Kentucky last week. Will Rogers was stifled by a stout Wildcats defense and the air raid offense just never could get off the ground. The Bulldogs fell, 27-17.
ESPN’s FPI predicts each game’s outcome and has the Crimson Tide bouncing back in a major way this weekend. The metric gives Alabama a 90.8% chance of righting the ship and improving to 7-1 on the season.
That’s a necessary step for Alabama to take if its dreams of reaching yet another College Football Playoff are to be realized. Especially after losing to Tennessee, Alabama has to win out to both win the West and have a shot at the 4-team field at the end of the year.
Mississippi State is gunning for an SEC Championship berth, too. They, like the Tide, cannot afford another loss on the season having already lost 2 SEC games this year.
The bout is set for 7 p.m. EST on ESPN at Bryant-Denny Stadium in Tuscaloosa.
