The Florida Gators have been a member of the SEC since its inception in 1933. In the 92 full football seasons that have followed, they’ve won fewer than 4 games just 5 times:

  • 1935 (3-7)
  • 1942 (3-7)
  • 1946 (0-9)
  • 1953 (3-5-2)
  • 1979 (0-10-1)

If Billy Napier isn’t careful, the 2025 Gators will join that list. ESPN’s Football Power Index currently projects the Gators to finish 3.5-8.5 (10th-worst in the country). FPI also gives Florida only a 6.2% chance to become bowl-eligible this season. Six remaining games against top 15 teams — after battling 2 top 10 squads the last couple of Saturdays — will do that to you.

Here are the updated win probabilities:

  • Oct. 4 vs. No. 10 Texas – 23.3%
  • Oct. 11 at No. 9 Texas A&M – 22.8%
  • Oct. 18 vs. Mississippi State – 55.6%
  • Nov. 1 vs. No. 5 Georgia – 17.5%
  • Nov. 8 at Kentucky – 48.7%
  • Nov. 15 at No. 13 Ole Miss – 14.9%
  • Nov. 22 vs. No. 15 Tennessee – 28.3%
  • Nov. 29 vs. No. 8 Florida State – 41.3%

When the final chapter of this Gators’ season is written, their schedule may go down as one of the toughest in college football history. If Mississippi State (4-0) ever cracks the top 25 this season, Florida will have faced 10 teams who were ranked at one point or another. It’s not unreasonable for Gator fans to have expected more from their team, but the weight of such a slate isn’t something anyone — except maybe Nick Saban — would want to and/or potentially could bear. Kickoff between Florida and Texas is scheduled for 3:30 p.m. E.T.
