ESPN’s FPI updates projections for every remaining game on Oklahoma’s schedule
For the second time in Brent Venables’ last 3 seasons, the Oklahoma Sooners are undefeated through 4 games. Saturday’s dramatic 24-17 victory over Auburn ensures the Sooners will remain unbeaten until at least October, as they’ll enjoy their first bye this upcoming weekend.
When we last checked in on Oklahoma in ESPN’s Football Power Index, the Sooners had a 19.9% chance of earning a College Football Playoff berth. Their current odds (44.0%) have more than doubled since then, and are no longer 11th-best in the SEC, but 11th-best in the country (and sixth among SEC teams).
Oklahoma is looking good today and will likely be feeling good following a matchup with Kent State two Saturdays from now. However, after they host the Flashes, the Sooners will tussle with 6 ranked opponents in their final 7 games. Their lone non-ranked foe in that stretch, South Carolina, was a preseason top 15 team. Bottom line? Venables and Co. can’t afford to overlook anyone the rest of the way.
Here are the updated win probabilities:
- Oct. 4 vs. Kent State – 99.0% chance to win
- Oct. 11 vs. No. 10 Texas – 33.7%
- Oct. 18 at South Carolina – 64.0%
- Oct. 25 vs. No. 13 Ole Miss – 42.7%
- Nov. 1 at No. 15 Tennessee – 33.7%
- Nov. 15 at No. 17 Alabama – 28.2%
- Nov. 22 vs. No. 20 Missouri – 55.2%
- Nov. 29 vs. No. 4 LSU – 61.4%
FPI projects Oklahoma to split their final 8 games, but the Sooners’ win probability in each remaining SEC contest has increased over the past 2 weeks. They’ll battle Kent State at 3:30 p.m. E.T. on Oct. 4 (SEC Network).
