No. 23 Tennessee is set to face off against Illinois in the 2025 Music City Bowl in what will essentially be a home game for the Vols.
The Music City Bowl takes place in Nashville, Tennessee, and we’re likely to see some stars sit out for both sides in this contest. Tennessee is expected to be without star wide receiver Chris Brazell II, who posted his intentions of entering the 2026 NFL Draft. Illinois will likely be without star linebacker Gabe Jacas, who will also begin prepping for the NFL Draft.
Star left tackle JC Davis will also likely miss the Music City Bowl for Illinois, as he is also prepping for his NFL career.
ESPN’s SP+ predicts that we will have a close one, with Tennessee projected to win 32-28.

However, both quarterbacks will suit up and play in the Music City Bowl. Illinois’ Luke Altmyer will look to finish his career on a high note, and Tennessee’s Joey Aguilar will look to do the same.
The Vols took a step back from their 2024 campaign, which saw them end their season in the College Football Playoff. Hype has already started for next year as Tennessee brought in Jim Knowles to help turn around the Vols’ defense.
Kickoff against Illinois is set for 5:30 p.m. ET on Dec. 30.
