One of the more under-the-radar matchups taking place this weekend in the SEC is the clash between two former Eastern Division rivals, the Kentucky Wildcats and the South Carolina Gamecocks.
Both teams have gotten off to rather underwhelming starts in 2025 and will be looking to pick up their first SEC win this Saturday at the expense of the other in hopes of getting things back on track.

ESPN analyst Bill Connelly recently dropped all of his SP+ projections for Week 5’s jam-packed slate of action, and his model produced an extremely interesting outcome between the Gamecocks and the Wildcats.
The SP+ is a predictive model that utilizes a wide range of statistics and historical trends to curate power rankings for ESPN and project the outcome of any given game from week to week.
When it comes to this Saturday’s clash between Kentucky and South Carolina, the model is actually projecting a near dead heat, with the rounded projected score between them coming out to 24-24.
The raw numbers actually have the Gamecocks favored slightly at 0.2, but the fact that the SP+ has them so evenly matched is pretty incredible. If the actual game ends up playing out in the manner the model projects, then this could end up being another multiple-overtime SEC thriller.
