Never one to stray away from criticism, ESPN studio host Trey Wingo sounded off on the Nick Saban/Reuben Foster situation via Twitter on Wednesday:

Here’s the original tweet Wingo was referencing:

Saban, known to stick with his players through thick and thin, voiced his support of Foster Wednesday after an incident saw the linebacker sent home from the NFL Combine early.

Foster, who is recovering from surgery, was planning on missing drills at the combine regardless. After getting into a verbal altercation where he objected to the way he had been treated during a medical examination, Foster missed out on the rest of the combine experience after being asked to leave the event.

In the statement above, Saban insisted that this incident had little to do with Foster as a teammate and leader off the field.

Here’s Saban’s full statement on Foster, given during Alabama’s Pro Day:

“I think anyone that thinks what happened in Indy should affect this guy’s future in the draft is being very short-sighted,” Saban said. “He’s played here for four years, we’ve never had an issue with him. He’s always been a great leader, he’s a signal caller on defense, he’s bright. He’s always been a great team guy and really well liked by his teammates.

“If you’re looking for a good teammate for your team, Reuben’s going to be very, very good. If you’re looking for somebody to be a candy striper and be nice to everyone at the hospital, maybe not.”

Wingo’s comments suggest that he doesn’t buy it.
