The Ole Miss Rebels moved to 5-0 after the historic win over Alabama and vaulted its way into the top 10 at No. 3.
The Rebels have received significant contributions from their 2013 recruiting class, which continues to improve and develop with each game. Wideout Evan Engram had a huge performance in the Rebels’ win over the Crimson Tide, as did a number of sophomores on the Ole Miss defense.
Here’s a rundown of how some of Ole Miss’ 2013 recruits fared last weekend against the Tigers:
- Quincy Adeboyejo: Adeboyejo was relatively quiet versus the Tide, registering just one rush attempt for negative yardage. He’s been a consistent target for quarterback Bo Wallace this year, but was held in check by a stout Alabama defense.
- Tony Conner: The Batesville, Miss., native had a monster game on the defensive side of the ball for head coach Hugh Freeze. Conner recorded 10 tackles, six of which were solo, and was credited for one-half tackles for loss.
- Mark Dodson: Dodson’s impact was felt on special teams for the Rebels, where he had two kickoff returns for 73 yards, including a 54-yard kick return. Dodson’s a versatile player for Ole Miss who can have an impact running the ball, out wide and on kick return.
- Evan Engram: Engram had a big day versus the Crimson Tide, catching three passes for 71 yards with a team-high 50-yard pass. The Tide’s secondary has been vulnerable all year, but Engram was able to catch some timely passes for Wallace.
- Robert Nkemdiche: The former top recruit in the nation was held at bay, for the most part, against Alabama on Saturday. He recorded five tackles, but never created pressure in the backfield for Tide signal caller Blake Sims.
- Laquon Treadwell: Treadwell had his typical Saturday catching five passes for 55 yards and a touchdown.
- Laremy Tunsil: Tunsil and his Ole Miss battery mates struggled on the offensive front, allowing nine tackles for loss and two sacks to a vaunted Alabama defense. The task doesn’t get much easier this week when the Rebels travel to College Station to take on Texas A&M.
