Florida State QB Everett Golson won’t play in Peach Bowl due to ‘personal issue’
Florida State won’t have the services of starting quarterback Everett Golson against Houston in the Peach Bowl on New Year’s Eve.
According to Seminoles coach Jimbo Fisher, the graduate transfer’s career will come to a premature end due to “a personal issue.”
Here are a series of tweets from Tom D’Angelo, a Florida State beat writer for the Palm Beach Post.

Golson — who appeared in nine games — had a disappointing season with the Seminoles, finishing 7th in the ACC by averaging just 197.6 passing yards per game. However, Golson did finish 2nd only to Clemson QB Deshaun Watson in completion percentage (67.1) and had the 3rd-best QB rating in the conference (149.2).
Golson enrolled at Florida State in August after graduating last spring from Notre Dame. Due to his graduation, he was immediately eligible to play for the Seminoles for his final year of eligibility.
After winning a competition for the starting job with Sean Maguire during preseason camp, he was named the Seminoles starter just days before the season opener against Texas State.
However, Golson’s last start of his career came against NC State in Week 11, a game in which he was yanked by Fisher in the second quarter after an outing in which he lost a fumble on the team’s first play of the game before throwing two interceptions.
Golson came to FSU after playing two seasons at Notre Dame. In 2012, he led the school to a national title game appearance against Alabama, which throttled the Irish 42-14.
