It didn’t take long after the Cardinals released Tyrann Mathieu for him to find a new NFL home.

The Houston Texans signed Matheiu to a one-year deal, first reported by ESPN’s Adam Schefter late Friday night. The Texans are expected to pay Mathieu $7 million for 2018. Assuming he plays well, the Texans could sign Mathieu to a long-term extension.

The Cardinals somewhat surprisingly released Mathieu after the two sides couldn’t come to an agreement for 2018. Mathieu refused to take a pay cut from the $11 million he was scheduled to receive.

During his NFL career, Mathieu has proven he can play either safety position and cover slot receivers as necessary. It’s quite the upgrade for the Texans.

It appears that JJ Watt’s “Come on over bro” message had an impact on the talented DB.
