False start: South Carolina to correct banner hung outside Williams-Brice Stadium

In the space of a few hours, a banner hung outside Williams-Brice has been flagged as having the wrong shade of garnet. Now the prominent “Welcome home” banner on the west side of the stadium will be replaced, the athletics department announced on Saturday afternoon.
After some social media criticism about the shade of garnet, which was seen by some as too red in color, and didn’t match the more garnet shade on the Gamecocks’ jerseys, an announcement was made that it will be corrected. Others speculated that it may fade or change once it’s in the outside elements for several weeks and months.
The “Welcome home” message is something coach Shane Beamer has used in recent months during his offseason speaking tour and when announcing commitments and coaching staff hires on social media.
This will be something to watch entering next week, and how much the issue sticks with fans this season.
The colors on our new Williams-Brice Stadium banner did not come out as intended. We will work with our signage and printing partners to make the correct change.

Two things: South Carolina will have the banner re-printed with color closer to what it hoped for when ordering. Local company @signarama only hung the banner – did not print the actual banner https://t.co/24wdQe4CHe
