Fans had the LSU and Ole Miss game circled as one of the biggest games in a weekend full of huge matchups. The first half was a bit of a ref show, but between the two teams, the Rebels’ offense was the only one to show up.

Ole Miss had 285 yards of offense at the break. The Tigers had only 126 and went to the locker room trailing 17-7.

Tiger fans and the media had plenty to say about it at the half, calling out everyone from Brian Kelly to the play of quarterback Garrett Nussmeier.

Star running back Caden Durham missed the game with an injury, and the Tigers were very hesitant to run the ball as a result. The Tigers had 9 rushing attempts for 24 yards in the first half.

On the ESPN halftime show, analyst Dan Orlovsky implored LSU to be willing to throw the ball short and at least make the Ole Miss defense respect the thought of the run.

All offseason, the talk had been about how explosive the LSU offense was going to be, but that just hasn’t been the case thus far. Nussmeier was looked at as a Heisman Trophy candidate, and he will need to take his game to the next level if the Tigers are going to be a true contender.
