FCS team throws hilarious ‘lollipop’ touchdown pass on trick play

For most Power 4 programs, scheduling an FCS opponent early on in the season means an opportunity to iron out some of the finer details in their game plans before they get into the meat of their schedules.

This is why the Baylor Bears scheduled the Samford Bulldogs for their week 3 matchup, and while the Bears are certainly outmatching their FCS foes in just about every way, Samford had some tricks up their sleeve down in Waco.

One of these tricks ended up scoring the Bulldogs their lone touchdown of the first half, and it included one of the wonkiest passes to find the end zone so far in the 2025 campaign.

Samford went to the tried-and-true double pass to get on the scoreboard, with grad transfer running back C.J. Evans getting the honors of tossing the Bulldogs’ first touchdown of the matchup.

In rather hilarious fashion, though, Evans put a little to much air under the ball, leading to the pass hanging up in the air for what felt like an eternity.

In most circumstances, this type of pass would spell disaster, but fortunately for both Evans and Samford the only player in the vicinity of the “lollipop pass” was Bulldogs freshman receiver Torrey Ward, who hauled in the pop-up from Evans for the score.
