What a year it has been for Florida QB Feleipe Franks.
Two seasons into his college football career, his head coach changed and brought in a completely different offense. While Franks’ skill set was thought to be better suited for Jim McElwain and Doug Nussmeier’s system, Franks showed growth in his first season playing in Dan Mullen’s spread option. As a redshirt sophomore, Franks threw for more yards and more touchdowns at a higher completion percentage with fewer interceptions.
Going from 4-7 and home for the holidays to 10-3 and winners of the Peach Bowl was overwhelming for Franks. After the game, a reporter asked what was going through his head when the final second ticked off the clock in Florida’s 41-15 win over Michigan.
“I think for me, like Coach Mullen said, coming off a season like last season to where we’re at now, winning a New Year’s Six bowl, and that’s kind of like where I was at with being overwhelmed,” Franks said.
“Just filled with emotion and just on how much I felt like I’ve improved from last season under Coach Mullen and [quarterbacks] Coach [Brian] Johnson, and how much this team’s improved from last season as well. So it’s just a great feeling, tears of joy, that I’ve always wanted to be in the middle of confetti falling down on me, winning championships. Coach Mullen’s bringing that back to Florida.”
