Signs of life are barely noticeable on the Missouri sideline and a big reason for the one-sided affair in Columbia is the field position battle.
Aside from running 23 more plays than Missouri in the first half, Georgia has started its drives on average at its own 44-yard line. Three of the Bulldogs’ drives have started at midfield or in Missouri territory.
On the other hands, it’s a house of horrors offensively for Missouri, who has not benefited from field position. They’ve constantly played out of their own territory with an average starting field position of their own 23-yard line and no drives beginning past midfield.
RELATED: Georgia defense taking over first half against Missouri
If Missouri is to come back in this game, they’ll need to turn the tide in the field position battle. Georgia’s defense is simply too good today for the Tigers to mount enough scoring drives across the length of the field to come back from multiple scores. The Missouri defense needs to step up, forcing short drives or turnovers in order to flip the field position.
Georgia took advantage of the shorter field position by pounding the rock and capitalizing on its opportunities offensive with 20 points in the first half. After being shut out in the opening half, Missouri needs to strike quickly in the second half if the Tigers want to make this a competitive game again.
