The 2025 college football season has started, and one of the most significant talking points has been how loaded the quarterback position is and what that means for the 2026 NFL Draft. The SEC potentially has some of the biggest names in Arch Manning and Garrett Nussmeier, but another name to watch is LaNorris Sellers, who could jump up draft boards based on his performance.
ESPN NFL analyst Field Yates appeared on Wednesday’s episode of Get Up, and he broke down that he thinks Sellers could become the most significant mover during this season based on his play. He could end up making a giant name for himself among NFL scouts.
“It’s LaNorris Sellers from South Carolina,” Yates responded, regarding which quarterback has the highest ceiling. “He’s gigantic. He looks almost like an NFL tight end. Some of the things he can do, both with his mobility outside and his movement inside the pocket, are hard to coach — maybe even impossible.
“I think back to the game late last season when South Carolina played great ball against Clemson. They won that game 17–14, and LaNorris Sellers had 16 carries for 166 yards and two touchdowns. There was some real Houdini magic within the pocket. He’s got unbelievable size, great speed to match it, and he makes ‘wow’ plays all over his tape.”
Last season, Sellers had 3,208 total yards on both the ground and through the air and 25 total touchdowns and 13 turnovers. He was one of the nation’s best dual-threat quarterbacks in his first year as a starter, and his expectations are even bigger this season.
The Gamecocks need Sellers to play his best this year to compete in the SEC. That is South Carolina and Sellers’ first order of business, but based on his play, he has a future in the NFL Draft and could potentially jump into the top 10.
