Don’t expect Texas A&M and new defensive coordinator John Chavis to go down without a fight in their quest for five-star cornerback Kendall Sheffield, now a Crimson Tide commit who made his decision known during last week’s Under Armour All-America Game in St. Petersburg, Fla.

Thought to be an Aggies lean for several weeks, the top-notch coverman from Missouri City, Texas, took his official to College Station on Dec. 12 before Chavis was announced as Mark Snyder’s replacement. Alabama assistants Kirby Smart and Bo Davis took advantage of Texas A&M’s defensive staff in limbo and provided a late push prior to the start of the dead period following Sheffield’s visit.

Rest assured Chavis and the Aggies will contact Sheffield and reveal how he fits into next season’s scheme once the dead period is over. There’s a chance Alabama could shift some of its defensive staff prior to signing day as well considering how this season ended on a sour note, perhaps helping Texas A&M’s chances of landing the impact defender.
