A week ago, the Florida football community was saddened by the news of Aubrey Hill’s passing after a long battle with cancer. Hill was a former UF wide receiver and team captain helping Steve Spurrier’s teams to multiple SEC championships (1991, ’93, ’94). After his playing days, Hill got into coaching. He was most recently an assistant on Butch Davis’ Florida International staff. On Sunday, FIU shared a video tribute to Hill.

Watching that clip, it’s easy to see why so many of Hill’s former teammates, colleagues and players remembered him for his smile and upbeat energy.
As a coach, Hill had two stops at Florida. He was a graduate assistant under Spurrier from 1996-98 and returned as Will Muschamp’s wide receivers coach in 2011 and ’12. Hill’s other college coaching stops included Elon College, Pittsburgh, Duke and Miami. From 2013-16 he was the head coach at Miami Carol City High School, leading his high school alma mater to a Class 6A state championship in his final season.
Hill was 48.
