The Broyles Award, given to the nation’s top assistant coach, has five nominees from the SEC among the 34 announced.
The Rotary Club of Little Rock has released the list of all 34 nominees on Wednesday. Head coaches can submit one potential nominee from their staff. Five finalists will be named on Nov. 30, and the winner will be announced at the banquet at the Marriott Hotel on Dec. 8. This is the 19th edition of the award, which was created in 1996.
Five of the past seven winners (Kevin Wilson, Gus Malzahn, Bob Diaco, Pat Narduzzi and Tom Herman) have become head coaches. Herman, the current Houston coach whose name has surfaced for several coaching vacancies, won the award last season as Ohio State’s offensive coordinator.
Here are this year’s nominees from the SEC:
Alabama: Kirby Smart, Defensive Coordinator/Inside Linebackers
Arkansas: Dan Enos, Offensive Coordinator/Quarterbacks
Florida – Geoff Collins, Defensive Coordinator
Mississippi State – Brian Johnson, Quarterbacks
Ole Miss – Dan Werner, Offensive Coordinator/Quarterbacks
