Florida athletic director Scott Stricklin took to Twitter this week in an attempt to find a new home-and-home series with a Power 5 opponent. That strategy seems to be working.
Clemson athletic director Dan Radakovich answered Stricklin’s tweet, saying the Tigers “would enjoy a visit to the Swamp.”
Here’s the full exchange:
Attention ADs from the ACC, Big Ten, Big 12 or Pac-12 … @GatorsFB is looking to add additional Home-and-Home series against P5 opponents. Let’s connect and schedule quality games the fans want to see! #GoGators

Thanks Dan. Gators would love a H/H with Clemson … any chance we could do it sooner? 17 years is a long time to wait. https://t.co/X3W1rCBtKB

It’s good to see Florida try and push for an earlier scheduling years than 2037 and 2038. That feels more like a date that might be mentioned as a futuristic year in the upcoming new Terminator movie than a good scheduling date for a college football series.
However, not all athletic departments responded positively to Stricklin’s Twitter ploy to land another Power 5 home-and-home series.
From Iowa State athletic director Jamie Pollard:
We already play 10 P5 games every year (9 conference games plus Iowa). Maybe the @SEC should play 9 conference games like the @Big12Conference

The eight versus nine conference game schedule in the SEC is a debate for another time. The bottom line is Stricklin is attempting to bulk up the Florida schedule in any way he can, which will ultimately help the Gators build a playoff-caliber resume and assist in recruiting.
