Florida basketball hires assistant coach to Todd Golden’s staff

Florida has made the first hire to Todd Golden’s staff. UF men’s basketball announced Tuesday that Kevin Hovde will be an assistant coach under Golden.
Hovde arrives from Richmond, his alma mater, where he was an assistant coach. The Spiders made the NCAA Tournament after winning the Atlantic 10 conference tournament. Richmond upset Iowa in the first round of the NCAA Tournament before falling to Providence in the Round of 32.
“I couldn’t be more excited to join Florida’s elite men’s basketball program and become a part of the University of Florida and Gator Nation,” Hovde said via a team announcement. “It was going to take a special opportunity for me to leave my alma mater, and this is that opportunity. I am incredibly thankful to be a part of this staff. My family and I are thrilled to be reunited with Coach Golden and his family in Gainesville!”
Hovde and Golden have worked 7 seasons together. Hovde and Golden were assistants together at Columbia and San Francisco. Golden became San Francisco’s head coach in April 2019 and made Hovde the associate head coach, a position he held for 2 seasons.
“Kevin is extremely sharp and has a great understanding of what we want to do, not only from a basketball standpoint but in the big picture of how we want this program to run,” Golden said, via UF communications. “He has one of the best offensive minds we have in the college game. We’ve obviously had the opportunity to work alongside each other for several years at multiple stops, and I’m really glad we have the chance to add another chapter to our collaboration here at Florida.”
