Florida coach Jim McElwain held a press conference this afternoon. Here are the highlights from what he told the media on Friday.

He certainly sees something in redshirt sophomore QB Luke Del Rio, who looks to be the early favorite to win the starting job.

However, McElwain also had some praise for Del Rio’s freshmen competitors, Feleipe Franks and Kyle Trask.

The Gators’ coach also gave his take on running backs that shoulder the majority of the load for their team. He says he’s not a fan.

McElwain also gave some personnel updates, including three guys who won’t be in action at practice today.

McElwain voiced some frustration with Wednesday’s practice, which was the last time Florida took the field as there was no practice on Thursday.

With defensive lineman Jonathan Bullard moving on to the NFL, McElwain pointed to sophomore CeCe Jefferson as someone that will need to fill his shoes. Last season, Bullard led the defense with 17.5 tackles for loss and was tied for the team lead with 6.5 sacks.

McElwain gave some props to one wideout, junior C.J. Worton, who’s started to hit his stride..
