Florida DC Todd Grantham shares well wishes for injured Georgia DB Richard LeCounte
In a week likely filled with trash talk between Georgia and Florida fans as the two prepare to face off in Jacksonville in a game that could decide the SEC East, a moment of class came out of Gainesville this week from Florida defensive coordinator Todd Grantham.
Gator Country’s Nick de la Torre shares that Grantham paused after answering the first question of his press conference to make sure to extend well wishes to Georgia standout defensive back Richard LeCounte, who was injured in a motorcycle accident after Georgia’s loss to Kentucky on Saturday.
“He plays the game the right way,” said Grantham after offering his thoughts and prayers to LeCounte.
“He’s an excellent player. You hate to see that happen to anyone. We wish him a speedy recovery and look forward to seeing him play soon.”
LeCounte’s absence will be a big blow to Georgia’s secondary on Saturday, but it was a great move by Grantham to recognize some things that are bigger than football.
An SEC First Team preseason selection, LeCounte had 26 tackles through 5 games this season. He is also one of 19 players currently tied for the national lead in interceptions with 3.
Heading into his fourth season at Georgia, LeCounte was named to pre-season watch lists for the Bednarik Award (collegiate defensive player of the year), Paycom Jim Thorpe Award (nation’s top DB) and the Bronko Nagurski Trophy (nation’s top defensive player).
