Dan Mullen names Florida’s starting QB for the season opener against Charleston Southern
The decision has finally been made in Gainesville.
Dan Mullen has named sophomore Feleipe Franks as Florida’s starting quarterback for the season opener against Charleston Southern on Saturday, Sept. 1 in Gainesville. Franks beat out Kyle Trask for the job.
The redshirt sophomore appeared in 11 games for the Gators in 2017, completing 54 percent of his passes for 1,438 yards, with nine touchdowns and eight interceptions. While he didn’t register any significant rushing totals, he statistically had 20 rushing yards on the season, Franks has shown he possesses the ability to punish a defense with his legs. That’s a quality Mullen looks for in a quarterback, noting he was seeking a “willing runner” to lead his offense during training camp.
