Florida hammered for anemic offensive performance in first half vs. Miami
Florida produced 1 (one) first down in the first 30 minutes of Saturday night’s game against Miami.
Florida had just 32 yards of offense at the break and trailed 13-0. Miami ran more plays than Florida gained yards. The Gators produced just 4 rushing yards. Adjust the rushing total to account for sacks and the Gators had just 12 rushing yards. Jadan Baugh — a budding star a year ago — had 3 carries for minus-2 yards. Baugh was also the only Gator who made multiple receptions in the first half.
Quarterback DJ Lagway averaged 2.3 yards per pass attempt. If there was a silver lining in the pass game, it was that Lagway, on the heels of a 5-interception game last week, didn’t have a turnover. Unfortunately, it’s pretty easy to be safe with the football when you don’t look down the field. Florida’s longest pass play of the opening half gained 8 yards.
For a Florida program that opened the season at No. 15 in the AP poll, nothing has gone right through the first 4 weeks. The Gators entered Saturday night’s interstate showdown at 1-2 on the season. Florida hasn’t beaten an FBS opponent yet, and unless things change dramatically in the second half, that will remain the case for at least another week.
And, as you’d expect, Florida fans aren’t thrilled. At this point, though, neutral observers are even starting to feel sorry for Florida.
