Florida HS coach suspended for holding football practice, violating social distancing orders

The head coach of one of the most prominent high school football programs in Florida has been suspended for holding practice in violation of social distancing orders.
Miami Northwestern Senior High School coach Max Edwards was officially suspended on Friday. WSVN 7News Miami reports that it received photos showing “dozens of football players and the coach gathered in a huddle last Wednesday at the school” as well as “some of the players in the process of tackling another player.”
Per 7News, a representative for Miami-Dade County Public Schools released a statement on the matter:
“The school’s administration launched an investigation as soon as it learned about this unauthorized athletic activity. The head coach has been suspended pending the outcome of this matter and further action may be taken against others who may have been involved in this unsanctioned event. The school is in the process of communicating with parents of students who may have participated.”
Five of the school’s alumni are currently on NFL rosters. Alabama great Amari Cooper and former Georgia standout Deandre Baker represent the SEC while Teddy Bridgewater, Artie Burns and Lavonte David round out the list.
Miami Northwestern has won seven state titles, including an active three-year streak. The school won back-to-back 6A titles in 2017 and ’18. Last year, the program defeated Orlando Jones for the 5A title.
