Florida added a significant piece to its 2024 roster on Wednesday afternoon.
The Gators officially landed a commitment from former 5-star prospect Cormani McClain out of the portal. McClain entered the portal this offseason after spending his freshman season at Colorado.
He shared the news of his commitment with On3’s Hayes Fawcett:

McClain was once an elite prospect as a high school recruit. He was the No. 13 overall player and the No. 1 cornerback in the class of 2023, per 247Sports Composite rankings. A Florida native, McClain had a complicated recruitment out of high school and at one point was expected to commit to the Gators.
Instead, he committed to Miami back in October of 2022. However, he never signed with the Hurricanes, instead choosing to join Deion Sanders and Colorado for the 2023 season.
McClain was largely unable get on the field for the Buffs last season despite significant struggles in the secondary for the Buffs. Sanders was often critical of McClain when asked about his lack of playing time by reporters.
It will now be up to Billy Napier and the Florida coaching staff to try to get the most out of McClain and his considerable upside. He offers Florida a potential upgrade at cornerback in the future if he continues to develop as a player.
Florida has now added 14 transfer commits this offseason. The Gators’ transfer class ranks No. 8 nationally, per 247Sports Composite rankings.
McClain totaled 13 tackles and 2 pass deflections for Colorado last season. He will have 3 years of eligibility remaining.
