It looks like the Gators will get their home opener in on Saturday.

Hurricane Irma is being closely watched as it makes its way towards Florida through the Atlantic Ocean. Irma is currently a category five storm and could wreak havoc in parts of Florida Saturday.

As a result of the storm, Florida has announced that Saturday’s home opener, originally slated for 7:30PM, will be moved up to a 12PM kickoff.

Gators Football shared the announcement on Twitter:

Florida AD Scott Stricklin believes the time change is the best possible solution.

“We have worked closely with campus and regional authorities during the last 48 hours to find the best possible solution that allows us to play the game and takes into account the safety of our fans, players, staff and personnel working the game,” said Stricklin. “With tropical conditions possibly expected in our region on Saturday night or Sunday morning, moving the game from 7:30 to Noon will give people a chance to come to the game and return home before any expected weather or effects hit our area.”
