Florida offensive lineman Brett Heggie already has a leg up on one thing this summer: pool wrestling against teammates.
Heggie proclaimed that he was at the top of the pool wrestling rankings followed by QB Feleipe Franks, who he explained has a lot of leverage. For his part, Heggie still calls his cannonball a work in progress, but is proud of his belly flop skills.
“Definitely the leader in the house in that,” he told reporters, in a video posted by Jacquie Franciulli.
The redshirt junior returns to the left guard position a year after he dealt with a series of injuries that cut his season to just nine games. Florida’s offensive line in 2018 allowed just 18 sacks, which was 20th in the country and third in the SEC.
Heggie said learning to get into a routine at camp is a priority.
“I think the experience part really helps, especially with playing,” he said. “You just go out and focus on playing and focus on the little things that you’ve got to fix.”
Heggie is one of just a couple Florida offensive linemen with starting experience, so he said he’s just trying to be there for the younger guys transitioning from high school. Heggie said he, Stone Forsythe and Nick Buchanan ran unofficial practices during the offseason for the linemen. Heggie added that this offseason had the most work done together by the entire unit than in previous offseasons during his time in Gainesville.
“High school and college, the speed of the game is completely different,” Heggie said. “You got to learn a new playbook, and for me, talking to them, it’s just about trying to get better every day.”
