Florida punter Johnny Townsend is one of 10 semifinalists for the Ray Guy Award, The Augusta Sports Council announced last Friday.
The redshirt junior is the only SEC player up for the yearly accolade, which honors the nation’s best punter. Townsend was among the semifinalists for last year’s Ray Guy Award, which went to Utah’s Tom Hackett.
He’s averaging 47.3 yards on 45 punts, 20 of which have been downed inside the opponent’s 20-yard line. Twenty of Townsend’s punts have traveled at least 50 yards, while his longest was 62 yards.
Three finalists will be announced Nov. 22, and the winner will be presented with the award live Dec. 8 at The Home Depot College Football Awards.
