A prized Louisiana recruit has pledged to Florida, as 4-star safety Wardell Mack announced his decision to join the Gators.

The 5-foot-11, 170-pound Mack cited a desire to resurrect Florida and the connections from his home state as factors for his commitment. Mack selected Florida over offers from LSU, Florida State, and Texas.

“On my official visit in April I saw it was a great place, with great people trying to put the pieces together to put Florida back on the map,” Mack said to On3. “Just having a sit down with coach Corey (Raymond) and his work through the years. Also, having Louisiana native coaches puts a plus on everything.”

Mack is regarded by the 247Sports Composite as the No. 4 recruit from Louisiana as well as the No. 13 cornerback in the Class of 2024.

On3’s scouting report describes Mack as a “smooth moving defensive back with the length and playmaking ability to make an impact as a cornerback or safety.”

Florida currently has the nation’s No. 3 recruiting class for 2024 according to 247Sports. The Gators start the season with a primetime contest at Utah on Aug. 31.
