Florida set to hire former team captain for coaching position, per report
Florida is adding former team captain David Reese to its coaching staff for the 2025 season, according to multiple reports.
That news was shared by multiple outlets on Friday morning. Per Nick de la Torre, Reese will be a quality control coach who works primarily with edge rushers.
Reese last played for Florida back in 2019. He was very impactful during his time in Gainesville as he made 38 starts during his collegiate career. Reese was named 2nd-team All-SEC by the Associated Press for his efforts back in 2019.
Reese began his coaching career in 2021 as a graduate assistant at Central Michigan. He then moved to Indiana as a GA from 2022-23 before serving as defensive assistant at Eastern Michigan in 2024.
Reese is just the latest support staffer with Florida ties to re-join the program under Billy Napier. Earlier this week, the Gators hired Steve Spurrier Jr. for a role on Napier’s staff. Spurrier was previously the offensive coordinator at Tulsa.
Perhaps Reese can contribute to a defensive line room that’s expected to grow in 2025. Florida recorded 86 tackles for loss during the 2024 campaign, which ranked 8th amongst SEC teams. UF will be hoping to take a step forward in that category in 2025.
