Florida State shredded over historic 0-3 start to season

Florida State made history for the wrong reasons with a 20-12 loss to Memphis on Saturday in Tallahassee.

Mike Norvell’s team was ranked No. 10 in the preseason polls but has looked nothing like it thus far. The season began with a last-second 24-21 loss to Georgia Tech in Dublin on Aug. 24 — then, on Sept. 2, the Seminoles suffered a humbling home-opening 28-13 loss to Boston College.

Now, the Noles are 0-3, managing just 219 yards of total offense while yielding 337 yards to Memphis, the program Norvell spent 4 years with and led to a New Year’s 6 appearance in 2019 before being hired by FSU. It’s the first time a preseason Top 10 team has lost their first 3 games since Penn State did it in 2020, and the first time ever that one has opened with losses to 3 straight unranked opponents.

Needless to say, the Seminoles have been in an absolute tailspin. DJ Uiagalelei has been a major disappointment behind center and the offense hasn’t received much help elsewhere. Getting to the College Football Playoff isn’t even up for discussion at this point — at this rate, the Noles could end up not even making a bowl altogether.
