Brian Edwards is still trying to get on the field.

The former Florida defensive back, who transferred to Central Michigan where former Florida coach Jim McElwain is now the head coach, received news this week that his waiver appeal with the NCAA was denied.

“Brian Edwards‘ initial wavier for immediate eligibility has been denied but the appeals process is ongoing,” Central Michigan Athletics Director Michael Alford told Central Michigan Life. “We will not make any additional comments until a final determination of Brian’s status has been made.”

In his two seasons on the field for Florida, Edwards appeared in 18 games playing defense and special teams. One of those came in 2017 for McElwain. Edwards departure hurt the depth in the secondary for the Gators as he was an experienced backup.

Edwards drew attention this offseason as he was arrested and charged with misdemeanor battery, but charges were dropped because of insufficient evidence.
