Texas Tech’s season-opening game against Ole Miss likely just got tougher as the Red Raiders have booted rising redshirt junior receiver Quan Shorts from the team following an arrest on Thursday.

This wasn’t Shorts’ first arrest of the offseason, as he was also arrested in March following a disturbance outside of a local Lubbock bar. Shorts’ latest arrest was for misdemeanor marijuana possession.

Following this news, the Texas Tech program announced Shorts has been dismissed from the program. This is relevant to Ole Miss as the two programs are scheduled to meet Saturday, Sept. 1 in Houston in the season opener for both teams.

In his two seasons on the field for Texas Tech, Shorts caught 14 passes for 223 yards and three touchdowns. He was scheduled to compete for a starting position for the Red Raiders heading into the 2018 season.
